Understand why you buy from someone specific

Over the years I have noticed that our volume of purchases have changed from different suppliers. Some of them sell very similar products while others are unique. If I look back it is quite intriguing how we changed from one supplier to the other, and it is not always because of better quality or more unique products.

Our suppliers have stayed the same, their product line-up has changed a little. What has changed more often are their sales representatives. It is fascinating how a sales rep can change the turnover of a single company. Off course people on both sides of the track must see eye to eye, but often when you click or have a good repertoire with a sales rep your sales will increase dramatically.
"People do not buy goods and services. They buy relations, stories and magic". So my advice to companies thinking of hiring sales reps, hire character and train skill. You need someone with an empathetic personality that will listen to your customers (or your distributors, r…

Fuel consumptions of a 1999 Polo Classic 1.6L manual petrol

For all those who want to know what fuel consumption a 1999 VW Polo Classic sedan will give can get the real info here.  Most driving was done on 70% highway and suburban traffic. None was done in city driving or peak traffic time.  The car was never pushed above 120 km/h or 75 mph on the highway, actually, most driving was done at 100-110 km/h (62-68 mph).

So far the average fuel consumption for the Polo Classic 1.6 is 8.6 L/100 km or 27.35 mpg (US) and 32.85 mpg (UK). Which considering the car is 18 years old quite good.

It hope this will help a lot of buyers considering an old car like this. We all worry about fuel consumption and anything above 10 L/100km or below 22 mpg(US) or 28 mpg (UK) is considered high.  I must say I was quite surprised how low it was, especially the mileage done. The car does use some oil, but not a lot. We have to add about 500 ml every 4 months.

The best business advice ever

There are hundreds of sites providing complicated guides and advice to business. You will also find thousands of ebooks on the subject, and these are all for free, for starters. I have read a lot, one of the most profound books ever written will always be Good to Great. I don't think you can beat the basic principles discussed, even if you are a small company or mom and pop shop.

But if you had to nail a principle down to once sentence, something you can remember while doing business to help you approach customers and suppliers it will be the following:

Choose only two: price, quality or service
You can only have two, that applies for a custom that is asking for a quote or a supplier providing a quote. Decide for yourself what are you willing to give. You cannot provide all three. If you do that I promise you, you will run out of business very quickly.

When dealing with a customer you will quickly get a gut feel that they maybe after cheap products and good service, that's ok…

Mercedes Benz W203 2001-2007 worst merc to buy ever

Let me defend myself first. I am a merc fan. If I thought it was an investment I would buy a new one, but it happens that I know a little more about money since school days and realized that a new car is a waste of money.

I started looking for a good second hand car
This had led me on the adventure of looking for a good second hand car that is comfortable and reliable. Another important factor is fuel consumption. It must be low since I am in no mood forking out half my salary in fuel costs.

The C-Class size fits my requirements perfectly so I started looking at various models and technical specifications. I was quite baffled at the amount of information that is available on mercs compared to other vehicles which is great if you are planning to buy a second hand car and do some of the maintenance yourself.

I think the best source of Mercedes videos and information is https://mercedessource.com/. I think Kent is very realistic and has enormous knowledge of these vehicles and its worth…

Outlook 365 search not working - Easy solution

The search function in any mail system is crucial especially if you use it for business.  Microsoft Outlook search function is prone to some error and stops working for no apparent reason.  It does not matter what mail you have, you can connect to gmail, hotmail or your own domain, the search function just stops working.
I have searched through all forums but no one recommendation worked for me. I even tried re-installing, running repairs etc.
Solving Outlook 365 search function not working I think it has all to do with the size of the outlook.pst file which is the main data file for your emails. Once it reaches a certain size the Outlook 365 search function stops working.  If you don't create new separate data files your main outlook.pst will grow and get bloated. It can easy reach more than 1GB in size. If you  use it for business and have mails as far back as 5 years, the total size can be 30-40GB. There is no way Outlook 365 can run smoothly with such a big file. One solution…

Fitbit Charge HR inaccurate heart rate measurement - personal experience

The Fitbit Charge HR claims to be a fitness device which can measure various aspects that people deem important during training.  There are two parameters that I think are important when training. (1) Your heart rate and (2) the number of steps taken.  I think these two parameters are the only really accurate measurements that can be trusted to measure your intensity and duration of an exercise. Other parameters like stairs climbed, calories and GPS are really not that important. In any case calories are derived from your build and heart rate.

The main reason I purchased the Fitbit Charge HR is for its heart rate measurement. This turned out not just to be an utter disaster but also extreme frustration and disappointment. So why am I making these claims.

Well let's see what my average gym routine is every second morning:

I start of with 20 minutes of "arm cycling". Have a look at the machine here. I run it on level 16 for 10 minutes and then level 18 for the last 10 minu…
